Those Europeans really do seem to have cafe culture down pat. Walk down any wide tree-lined avenue and you'll see how they're so set up with the pavement tables and huge sun-shading parasols. Afternoons can be spent in the perfectly legitimate pastime of people watching, whilst you remain coolly hidden behind your oversized dark shades. Hot cups of frothy cappuccino taste oh-so-sweet under the sunshine, as does the pure joy of knowing you have nowhere to go and nothing to do apart from sit there and soak up the atmosphere.
